Putting Down New Roots
What started on a repurposed baseball field a decade ago is growing into something even bigger. With our move to Gray Branch Park and partnership with the City of McKinney Park’s Department, McKinney Roots is expanding our ability to nourish, educate, and connect our community.
Enhanced Farm & Gardens
With room to grow, we will expand our farming operation to include a larger greenhouse, more chickens, and increased food production to better serve our neighbors.
At the heart of this growth will be an accessible learning garden—an inviting space where the community can learn, participate, and experience sustainable agriculture through hands-on discovery.
Expanded Educational Opportunities
We are deepening our commitment to education by offering more comprehensive programs focused on healthy living, gardening, and environmental sustainability. By connecting people to the land through hands-on learning, we help students, volunteers, and visitors understand sustainable agriculture and the journey from soil to table.
Increased Community Engagement
By creating more accessible spaces, we hope to invite deeper participation from the community we serve. The renovated barn will house a community center along with cooking classes and educational programs covering everything from water conservation to organic, regenerative, and biodynamic agriculture—bringing people together to learn, share, and grow.
It’s Still a Park
All spaces will be designed to draw people into nature, and we will enhance visitor education and appreciation of the natural environment by labeling trees, native plants, and produce.
4.5 miles of nature trails for outdoor recreation, exploration, and education.
Incorporating benches and picnic tables along the pasture trail.
Including dozens of wayfinding and learning opportunities within the 45-acre park.
